Total Restoration must determine after a fire what type of fire it was and use a different approach for each type. Sometimes TRC needs to use the mechanical devices used when cleaning to assist in odor removal. There are three types of smoke damage from a fire loss:
Natural:• burnt wood
• paper
• lumber, including building framing
Items that is in every building, both residential and commerical, include carpets, laminated counters, fiberglass fixtures, plastic shelves, electronics, cleaning supplies and chemicals. A fire involving these synthetic elements, which include a combination of many fuel sources, results in being mixed into the smoke residue and must be cleaned thoroughly:
• wood
• paper
• fabrics
• plastics
• chemicals.
A protein smoke is anything that burns and releases a fatty residue. A grease fire in a kitchen is a perfect example of the extensive damage protein smoke damage can have through a building, residential and commercial:
• foods
• meats
• animals
• humans
• chemicals
