Cleaning and Odor Removal

At Total Restoration, our goal is to remove the substance(s) that have contaminated the item(s) from a loss - soot, smoke, dirt, mud or odor - and return them back to their pre-loss state. TRCs services include dusting, vaccuming or just plain water cleaning as a less aggressive approach to a more aggressive process including EPA approved chemicals and cleaning products. Our experience provides our clients with peace of mind that their items are cleaned with the proper methods and within a time efficient manner.

One of the most important factors in any cleaning situation is TIME. Many items that are not immediately cleaned in less than 24 hours usually cannot be saved. For example, fiberglass tubs, formica counters and anything plastic. Furniture, cloth items and other contents, as well as the building itself is more flexible on the cleaning timeline.

Odor Removal:

Total Restoration uses air scrubbers that will circulate the building air through filters that are layered - hepa filters to trap small smoke and soot particles - then they pass through a large charcoal filter before being returned into the building. This machine can run for hours or days continuously to filter and "scrub" the air as TRC cleans. We will occasionally use Ozone to neutralize and destroy some more aggressive odors that still remain after removing the soot, dirt, etc.

• The most common mistake after a fire is to start salvaging personal items from the building and attempt to clean them with paper towels and window cleaners. This sets the stains and ruins the items.

• Cleaning should ALWAYS be done wearing gloves. Mosts people grab things and start cleaning, not realizing that the simple moisture and body oils on their hands can forever set the lightest smoke into the surface of an item.
